YOUNG
INVESTIGATOR GRANT 2008
A grant of up to €1,500 is available to support an
innovative research project in any area related to medical physics and
bioengineering. The funds may be used to pay for items such as
equipment, consumables, attendance at a conference, etc.
Eligibility:
Applications are
welcome from members of the APSM who are either:

Aged ≤ 35 years on
or
·
Registered for an
M.Sc. or Ph.D. Degree.
Guidelines for
Applications:
Applications must
include the following documents:
1.
A completed
application form, containing an abstract (max. 100 words) and a detailed account
of the proposed research project (max. 1000 words) under the following
headings:
- Background and
Purpose of Project
- Plan of
investigation (including timeframe) and proposed
methodology
- Breakdown of
all costings (there must be clear identification of how the applicant would
propose to spend the money)
- A brief CV (max. 2
pages) of the applicant, outlining any previous research
activities;
- A letter of support
from the Head of Department, confirming that the applicant is registered for a
higher degree or is actively involved in research
activities.

An assessment panel
comprising of members of APSM Executive and Research & Education SIG,
together with an external assessor, will consider applications in April 2008.
Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application as
soon as possible after this date. The decision of the assessment
panel is final and binding.
Applications will be
judged against the following criteria:

Academic
background of applicant;
·
Strength of
proposed project;
·
Clarity of
proposal, with defined, achievable goals;
· Feasibility to complete proposed work within
stated timescale.
Successful
Applicant:
·
The grant money
must be spent by the end of 2008;
·
A report outlining
the results of the project and a description of expenditure of the grant must be
submitted to the Research & Education SIG by

present the findings at the APSM Annual Scientific
Meeting;
· Acknowledgement of APSM Funding:
Any publications arising from research funded under this
scheme must acknowledge funding support from the Association of Physical
Scientists in
