The APSM has a role to play in the setting of professional standards and it can do this in the following ways:

• Dissemination of documentation concerning new or revised legislation prior to it becoming law, to members who may be affected by it for discussion and comment.
• Organising meetings to discuss standards and legislation with a view to formalising a response on behalf of the Profession and suggesting improvements to the legislation if necessary.
• Distribution of information on European and International standards for review and comparison with Irish standards.
• Publication of Guidelines on standards in the profession.
• Discussion of standards of professional qualifications
• Promoting awareness of the Profession
