Welcome to the Irish Association of Physicists in Medicine Website

The IAPM is an Association of Medical Physicists working in Health Care and Academia in Ireland. The IAPM was founded in 2010 by the merger of the Association of Physical Scientists in Medicine and the Irish Radiotherapy Physics Group and currently has over 170 members.

The aims of the Association are as follows:

  • The promotion of the application of the physical sciences in medicine
  • Promotion of Research and Education in the physical sciences in Medicine
  • Establishing and maintaining professional standards
  • Promoting professional development and the interests of the membership.
  • To offer appropriate advice concerning the application of physical sciences to relevant bodies as required

Annual Scientific Meeting 2nd April 2016

The IAPM produces a biannual newsletter called "Making Waves". This publication aims to provide a platform for the discussion and debate of subject matters relevant to Medical Physicists working in Ireland. The Winter 2015 edition of Making waves will be available soon for download in the members area.

Galway Radium Week

This course is ideally suited to physicists and other healthcare professionals who will be involved in the delivery of 223Ra therapy and wish to gain in depth knowledge and practical experience of the use of unsealed source therapy, in particular with alpha emitters. The course will take place from Monday 18th – Friday 22nd of April 2016 in the National University of Ireland, Galway. Practical sessions will take place between the University and Galway University Hospital.

Course faculty is comprised of national and international speakers and includes Dr. Glenn Flux (Royal Marsden), Prof. Paddy Regan (National Physical Laboratory), Dr. John Keightley (NPL), Dr. David Bradley (NPL), Dr Renata Mikolajczak (National Centre for Nuclear Research Radioisotope Centre, Poland), Prof. Peter Mitchell, Prof. Frank Sullivan, Dr. Martin O’Connell, Dr. Ruairi O’Donnell, Dr. Kathryn Carson, Dr. Michael Casey and Dr. Stephen Fennell.

A course dinner will be held on Thursday 21st April with social evenings organised for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. This course will be an excellent opportunity to meet colleagues involved in nuclear medicine therapy. The early registration deadline is Monday 11th March 2016. The course fee is €350 for the full course including comprehensive practical sessions and includes course handouts and lunch each day. There is an option to attend lectures only at a cost of €250 or single day attendance for €100 per day. The course will cost €450 for registrations after 11th March.
